When Samuel Hamblin and Edward White joined together to launch a menswear store, their aim was to bring quality garments and a gentleman’s experience, and that’s exactly what they’ve achieved with The Local Merchants.
Their stock choices are based on their own personal style. They sell what they love and their affection for the brands they represent is infectious. The rails are stocked with carefully selected menswear brands from at home and abroad, some of which they are introducing to the U.K. for the first time such as Swedish tailors Cavaliere, and Informale — a utilitarian brand from Melbourne. Other offerings include pieces from Edwin, Colourful Standard, Sunspel, and Leigh-on-sea’s very own Chopp Haircare, to name but a few.
But it’s the shopping experience that really sets The Local Merchants apart. It is a sad truth that to receive the welcoming, personalised and knowledgeable quality of service that Samuel and Edward provide, you would usually need to be spending far in excess of the price point of their garments. And even then, it’s unlikely you’d be offered a beer… But at The Local Merchants every customer is served like a gentleman and welcomed like a friend, and rightly so.
